Water play is hugely popular with children. Water play is an open ended activity which allows children to explore a substance and make exciting discoveries. Water play provides an exciting, hands-on way for children to learn about the world around them. Water also encourages children to use their imagination, and this type of creative thinking plays a big part in problem solving. Playing with water helps develop a child's hand eye coordination through actions like pouring, squeezing, scrubbing, stirring and squirting. Water play is also a great sensory experience for children, as it introduces them to different textures and temperatures. Water play can also be a therapeutic activity and can help children to feel relaxed. the repetitive nature of water play makes it a calming exercise through which children can collect their thoughts. Water play with others teaches children how to cooperate, negotiate and take turns using the space and materials provided.
There is so much more to nature play than just connecting with nature or breathing fresh air. Nature play provides opportunities for growth in learner dispositions that is harder to replicate indoors. Nature play helps children establish a sense of interdependence and connectedness with the world around them. Throughout this camp we will observe the world around us and discover new loose parts that can be included in everyday play from nature.
